Carl Yonder News

Best Medicine Rep is proud to present Storyteller I. This first solo show from Carl Yonder will feature over 20 new works by the Maryland-based artist in our lobby.

Storyteller I:  An engaging narrative telling the story of an explorer traveling the river of the subconscious.  His journey brings him upon celestial beings conducting ancient rituals, creatures seeming to embody our inner selves, and primeval desires wrought in color.  As he travels deeper, light becomes sparse, and this darkness leads to a deepening existential fear.

When light finally returns, it’s in the form of muzzle flashes from a real world tragedy.  Being pulled out of this lucid dream world, the explorer begins to see his subconscious reflected in the real world.  Forever changed, he realizes his story has just begun."

The opening night reception will be Friday Nov 2nd from 6pm - 9pm with light refreshments and hors d’oeuvres. And we invite you to come engage with the work, the conversation, and discover a new space for cultural activity in Gaithersburg.

The gallery show will be open to the public during the following dates and times:

November 3rd and 4th from 11am - 9pm
November 5th-8th from 6 - 8pm
November 9th from 6pm-9pm

Inspired by true events, The Consul, The Tramp, and America’s Sweetheart is set on the eve of World War II, when the nazi consul to Hollywood attempts to shut down production on Charlie Chaplin’s controversial first talkie, The Great Dictator.

Written by Best Medicine Rep’s artistic director John Morogiello, the script has won a number of national awards, including the Julie Harris Playwriting Award and the Dayton Playhouse FutureFest. It premiered at Oldcastle Theatre Company and was subsequently produced at Theatre 40 in Beverly Hills. The Best Medicine Rep production, which runs from January 18 through February 10, 2018, will be the play’s premiere in Maryland.
